4th of July

One of the hard things for me about moving is finding new holiday traditions. The 4th of July was always so wonderful in Iowa too! We set out to make it a fun day here this year, and I think we mostly succeeded.

Our ward hosted a pancake/muffin cook-off breakfast. Hazel decided to make muffins for the competition, and she won! Her friend Perry won the pancake side. Looks like the adults in our ward need some cooking lessons from these two little chefs!

Afterwards I snapped a few cute pictures of these five awesome kids. Love them!

That afternoon Michael took the kids to the pool for free swimming day. It was about 100 degree with what felt like a million percent humidity. It was HOT!

We had a few friends from the ward for a nice, low key dinner (inside to avoid the blazing heat haha).

That night we decided to skip the city fireworks in favor of letting Conrad get to bed on time and avoiding traffic. Instead we just watch all the fireworks our neighbors did from our front yard. They put on quite a show!

Maybe next year we'll add a more permanent "tradition," but for now it was just about perfect.
