Chickens!!!

For years we have wanted to get chickens. This year it finally happened! We all headed to Tractor Supply one night to pick out chicks. We ended up with 2 Golden Comets, 2 Barred Rocks, 2 Black Stars, 1 ISA Brown, and 1 Production Red. They are so much fun!

Just days old!

The kids love the chicks more than I imagined they would. They're constantly playing with them. Eliza is especially obsessed. She's been found carrying chicks in baskets, in her coat pocket, and even on a toy train ride. She named her chick Fluffy.

Hazel has had fun helping plan the coop. We decided it need a good name and settled on "Henworts School of Eggcraft and Chickenry" (inspired by Harry Potter). Most of the chicks now have Harry Potter inspired names to match the coop! Hazel's chick is Hermione.

Conrad's is Luna. 

This is the extra chick we named Ginny.

Daddy's chick is Butterbeer.

Orson's is Black (as in Sirius Black).

And my chick is Nymphadora.

Lenora's is the only non-Harry Potter name. She named hers Chicka-Chick. 

They are growing very fast! We're working to put the finishing touches on the coop so we can get them moved outside in the next few weeks. Michael has done an awesome job building the coop from recycled pallets!

Chickens really do make fun pets! And pets that produce food, fertilize the garden, and help keep bugs down. Yes please! Orson certainly approves.
