Eliza's Baptism

Beautiful Eliza as finally baptized the middle of September! She was so sweet to wait until we were in Utah and then until Grandma could make it so that she could have everyone there for her special day. And it was such a special day!

Eliza was baptized with two other children from the Stake. To honor each child, they asked a parent to give a few minute introduction to their son or daughter then talk about some of their best traits. It was fun to reflect on Eliza and introduce her to everyone.

I talked about how much Eliza loves books, chickens, elephants, gymnastics, and climbing. Then I focused on three great qualities of Eliza. First, she is courageous. Eliza can be fearless. It's obvious in the way she plays; she isn't afraid to try anything. But she's also courageous in the way she behaves. She stands up and defend what she believes in without any concern about what others will think. Eliza, you can grow to become a bold defender of truth and righteousness!

Next, Eliza is a natural nurturer. She is so wonderful with young children! She loves to play with them, help them, and encourage them. She also nurturers and cares for animals. Eliza, your tendency to nurture will serve you so well in life as you care for those around you. They will feel your love and flourish under your care!

Last, I talked about how Eliza often accepts and praises others best efforts. As I was preparing the programs for her baptism, I printed them incorrectly so the inside of the program was upside down. I was ready to reprint them, but she insisted they were beautiful and thanked me for making them. She does the same when the younger kids show her a scribbled picture they've drawn or a word they've attempted to write. She will light up and tell them what a great job they did. Eliza, I love how you see the best efforts of others and encourage them! Your praise will give many the confidence to continue to grow and improve.

What made Eliza's day even more special was all the family there to support her. After the date was set, we thought Tony wouldn't be able to make it. But he surprised us by flying out just for the day. It was amazing to have all the Ballards together! That evening we had such a fun, relaxed family dinner with all of Michael's siblings. They are such amazing supports to our family.

So many from my side of the family came to be there for Eliza too! It has been such a blessing to have everyone in my family so close that we get to see them often. Gram Holly played the piano and Brenna joined Hazel and Lenora in singing after the baptism.

Look at sweet Ginny holding Eliza's cast!
Sadly Uncle Jake had to work.
It was also Brenna's birthday!

Eliza we are so proud of the sweet girl you have become. Your choice to be baptized starts you on an amazing path as a disciple of Christ. We are proud of your choice and know you will be a wonderful support and example to many!
