Dear Hazel and Eliza,
Happy Birthday sweet girls! You two had just one wish for your birthday - cowgirl boots! You were thrilled when you opened them up. I'm pretty sure you both guessed what they were, but you love them nonetheless. You are becoming country girls at heart and now you can dress the part!
You also convinced me we should have a doll tea party with a few friends. We had a handful of your friend over to play with your dolls and make tutus for them. You both seemed to enjoy it! After your friends left, we enjoyed a birthday dinner with our family and "Grandma and Grandpa Jones" (they're a couple in the ward that love adopting all the kids as their own).For your cake, you worked together to agree on a cake pan to check out from the library. You picked the castle and helped me make a pretty awesome cake!
Hazel - we just love you so much! You are a wonderful big sister and help in our home. We can't believe how grown up you're becoming. Now that your front teeth have grown in you look SO much older to me. Not to mention you just keep getting taller and taller. I'm sure it will only continue - your feet are already almost as big as mine!
This summer you have become a little bookworm. It's not uncommon for you to read an entire chapter book in a day. You enjoy all sorts of books but your current favorites are still Junie B. Jones and the Nevergirls series. You also really love the American Girl books and act them out whenever possible.
This summer your friends have also become very important to you. While you still love just playing with your siblings, you also really look forward to having a friend come over or going to a friend's house. One cute friend story... While swimming with some friends you were nervous about going down the water slide. You even admitted to them, "Guys, don't laugh, but sometimes I'm just a scaredy cat!" To Karly, Jake, and Rose's credit, they didn't laugh and instead gently prodded you along until you agreed to go (and of course you loved it once you tried it!)
Your love of animals continues to grow. You are obsessed with horses and read lots about them.
You and daddy also somehow convinced me to get a puppy! When our friend's dog had puppies daddy took you girls over to see them. The two of you ganged up on me asking for one and begged me to just come see them. Once I saw you with them, I just couldn't say no. I got my childhood dog Layla when I was about your age. I have so many fond memories of Layla and growing up together that I wanted you to experience that as well. You and Eliza agreed to name her Haley after your friend Haley who owns the mom and who just moved back to Utah. Puppy Haley was too young to leave her mom when they moved so we will pick her up when we go to Utah this summer. You can't wait!
Happy 7th Birthday Hazel! We love you little long-legged girl!
You're also our little monkey. You love to climb and jump. When we were visiting the puppies one day, you learned how to jump from the hayloft in our friends' barn. You jumped in to that hay well over 20 times. You were even brave enough to jump down in to daddy's arms like the boys.
This summer you figured out how to read. No one taught you - you literally just figured it out. All the sudden the light bulb clicked, and now you're reading everything. You enjoy picture books and early readers the most. You even help read scriptures in the mornings!
You are a great big sister. You still love your little brother so much! He often smiles when he sees you walk in the room. You also spend lots of time playing with Lenora. Most often you play house and you are her mother. I think you like being in charge haha. Hazel has accused you of brainwashing the poor girl and it's sometimes true. You once convinced her to eat a spider by telling her they have sweet blood and juicy eyeballs. Wouldn't you know it, it took me a few days to convince her she should not be trying to eat spiders!?!
We love you wild little Eliza! Thanks for all the spunk and fun you add to our home!
